Turkey seasons are opening up all across the land as spring takes full command of the landscape in many places. Here is a glance at season dates, hunting license costs and bag limits in each of the 49 states that have an open turkey season.

Regulations are complex in some places, so be sure to review your state’s regs and consult with licensing agents before hunting to ensure you have everything you need before heading afield to hunt. Some states operate their turkey hunting licensing programs via limited draw lotteries and in some instances, the deadline to apply for spring turkey permits for 2024 has already passed.

• Season Dates: March 25-May 8, Zone 1; April 1-May 8, Zone 2; March 25-May 8, Zone 3.
• Hunting Licenses: Resident All Game ($32.55); non-resident license costs varies from $164.30 (three-day Trip All Game) to $377.25 (Annual All Game).
• Bag Limit: One gobbler per day; four gobbler bag limit during combined fall and spring seasons. Restrictions do apply on different public lands, see Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources regs for more details.

• Season Dates: Varies by hunt permit category type and location from April 19 through May 30.
• Hunting Licenses: A general hunting or combination hunting/fishing license is required (resident costs – $37 and $57; non-resident costs – up to $160). Turkey permit hunt tags are $38 for residents and $105 for non-residents; Archery turkey non-permit hunts are $25 for residents and $90 for non-residents.
• Bag Limit: One turkey per calendar year.

• Season Dates: April 15-23, Zone 1; April 15-May 5, Zone 2.
• Hunting Licenses: Resident combination sportsman license ($35.50); non-resident annual hunting license ($410) and non-resident turkey permit ($100 for one turkey).
• Bag Limit: Two legal turkeys allowed statewide (See AGFC regs for zone regulations and exceptions).

• Hunting Licenses: $35.76 (spring resident limited and over-the-counter); $183.94 (spring or fall non-resident limited and over-the-counter or late season); $12.15 (annual habitat stamp for residents and non-residents).
• Bag Limit: Two bearded turkeys for the spring, only one with a limited license, the other with an over-the-counter license.

• Season Dates: March 1-31, Kipuka Ainahou; March 1-April 15 (Units A, F, G, and private lands); first Saturday in November through the last Sunday in January on the Island of Hawaii.

• Bag Limit: 2 male turkeys, or turkeys with visible beard, may be taken during the season, with the following restrictions: hunters may take only one turkey during the first week; if hunters do not take one during the first week, then they may take 2 turkeys during the second and third week; hunters may not take two turkeys on the same day.

• Season Dates: April 15-May 31 in all open areas.
• Hunting Licenses: Resident base hunting license ($10); resident upland game bird hunting license ($7.50, required to purchase turkey license); resident turkey hunting license ($6.50); non-resident base hunting license ($15); non-resident upland game bird hunting license ($110); non-resident turkey hunting license ($57.50 with upland game bird license, or $115 without an upland game bird license); conservation license ($8 for residents ages 18-61 and $10 for all non-residents).
• Bag Limit: According to the National Wild Turkey Federation, the bag limit is 5 in the spring, with a total of 11 for the year.

• Season Dates: Archery (March 25-May 31); Shotgun (April 13-May 31)
• Hunting Licenses: Resident spring turkey ($30); resident spring landowner turkey ($16.50); non-resident spring turkey ($143); non-resident spring landowner turkey ($74); habitat stamp ($25).
• Bag Limit: 1 male or bearded hen per permit; a hunter may harvest no more than 1 turkey per calendar day during the spring season; and there is a maximum of two spring permits allowed per person (hunters with a landowner permit are allowed only one such permit in the spring).

• Season Dates: Varies by open county, dates range from earliest of March 23 to latest of May 5.

• Season Dates: Varies by period, from April 22-May 24 (excluding Sundays).
• Hunting Licenses: Resident firearms hunting license ($27.50); non-resident firearms hunting ($135); turkey permits ($21, valid for specific periods).
• Bag Limit: 1 male turkey per permit, only 1 turkey may be taken per day.

• Season Dates: Varies by unit, from earliest of April 15 to latest of May 15 (Goulds turkey, a once in a lifetime draw, has a season of May 1-30).
• Hunting Licenses: Resident over-the-counter (OTC) game hunting license ($15); non-resident OTC game hunting ($65); OTC turkey license ($25 for residents, $100 for non-residents); limited draw turkey permit ($7 application fee for residents, $13 application fee for non-residents; successful applicants must purchase game hunting license, applicable OTC license and stamps as necessary).

• Bag Limit: Daily limit of 1, season limit of 2, only one allowed during youth season.

• Season Dates: April 13-May 19 in all open units.
• Hunting Licenses: Spring hunting only open to residents (non-residents may hunt turkeys in the fall). Regular licenses are issued by weighted lottery after the number of gratis licenses to be issued is deducted from the total available. North Dakota Game and Fish says that resident hunters, regardless of age, must also possess a 2024-25 fishing, hunting and furbearer certificate ($1) and a general game and habitat license ($20). In addition, hunters age 16 and older must possess a 2024-25 small-game license ($10) or a combination license ($50) before hunting wild turkeys (gratis license holders exempt).
• Bag Limit: Each license holder may take 1 bearded or male wild turkey per license.

• Season Dates: May 4-18 (turkeys may be hunted 1/2 hour before sunrise to 12 noon); May 20-31 (turkeys may be hunted 1/2 hours before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset). Note: It is unlawful to hunt on Sundays, except for foxes, crows, coyotes and other exceptions noted in Pennsylvania Game Commission regulations.

• Bag Limit: Seasonal limit is 2 bearded birds; each turkey harvested requires an individual permit; no more than 1 turkey may be taken on state lands during the spring season.

Non-residents – 2 gobblers per season, no more than one per day, no more than 1 from April 1-10 on private land and WMAs in Game Zones 1 and 2; no more than 1 from March 22-31 on private land in Game Zone 3 and 4; some WMAs may be more restrictive, see South Carolina state regulations.

• Season Dates: April 13-May 31 (Spring Prairie); April 27-May 31 (Spring Black Hills); April 27-May 19 (Custer State Park).
• Hunting Licenses: Resident turkey archery ($25); resident turkey Black Hills spring ($25); resident turkey Custer State Park spring ($25); resident turkey Prairie spring ($25 for 1 male turkey; $35 for 2 male turkeys); non-resident turkey archery ($100); non-resident turkey Black Hills spring ($100); non-resident turkey Prairie spring ($100 for 1 male turkey, $125 for 2 male turkeys); Habitat stamp ($10 for residents, $25 for non-residents). • Season Dates: April 13-May 26 (shotgun/archery, general season).
• Hunting Licenses: Resident hunting/fishing combination ($33, plus appropriate supplemental license); resident annual sportsman ($165, all inclusive license); resident big game gun ($33); non-resident hunting all-game ($305); non-resident 7-Day hunting all-game ($214); some public lands require additional fee.
• Bag Limit: 2 bearded turkeys, only one can be a jake; no more than 1 per day. Adult gobbler must have at least one of the following: a beard longer than 6 inches, tail feathers are all the same length, wing feathers have white barring all the way to the tip, a spur that is at least 1/2 inch long.

• Season Dates: March 16-April 28 (Rio Grande – South Zone); March 30-May 12 (Rio Grande – North Zone); April 1-30 (Rio Grande – Special); April 22-May 14 (Eastern Turkey).

• Bag Limit: A total of 3 (three) male turkeys in the spring season with following restrictions: only 2 turkeys may be killed in eastern Washington, except 3 may be killed in Spokane County while only 1 may be killed in Kittitas or Yakima counties; 1 turkey may be killed per year in western Washington outside of Klickitat County, where 2 turkeys may be killed.

• Season Dates: April 15-May 19.
• Hunting Licenses: Resident annual public hunting license classes vary, prices range from $19 to $135; resident lifetime hunting/trapping ($782 for Class A-L); resident lifetime combination hunting/trapping/fishing license ($805 for Class AB-L); non-resident hunting/trapping license ($119); non-resident turkey hunting stamp ($32); non-resident National Forest hunting/trapping/fishing stamp ($2); non-resident lifetime hunting licenses are available for various license classes – see West Virginia Department of Natural Resources hunting regulations for full details and costs.
