How far ahead of time can I buy a Honey Ham? I want to eat it for at least five days before I freeze it, but how farther ahead of time can I buy it?
I dont know what their expire date usually is. This year I’m going to get a HONEY HAM for myself. I can’t wait, but I don’t want to open it until after Christmas or on Christmas Day. So I dont know when to go get one!.
When the holidays roll around HoneyBaked ham is a popular centerpiece for many families’ feasts. The sweet and salty glazed ham is a classic treat that often elicits delicious memories. However, with demand skyrocketing during busy holiday seasons some people wonder if they need to pre-order a HoneyBaked ham to guarantee getting one. Let’s take a closer look at planning ahead versus waiting when it comes to this timeless tradition.
Overview of HoneyBaked Ham
For the uninitiated HoneyBaked Ham is a company that specializes in making premium ready-to-eat hams. Their famous hams are
-
Injected with a sweet glaze or rub blend
-
Slowly smoked for tenderness
-
Sliced in proprietary machines for thin, consistent cuts
-
Packaged for convenience and freshness
The business began in 1957 and now has over 400 stores and ships hams all over the country. Their bone-in hams come in aCollectible Ham Tin that keeps it fresh. The ham is safe to eat cold or can be heated as desired.
Why Pre-Ordering May Be Smart
There are a few potential benefits to pre-ordering your HoneyBaked ham:
-
Guarantees availability – Particularly with extra demand during holidays, pre-ordering locks in your ham. Popular sizes or bone-in hams can sell out.
-
Earlier pickup times – Ordering ahead may allow earlier pickup dates or times versus day-of walk-ins.
-
Peace of mind – Taking ham tasks off your plate lets you relax and enjoy the holidays.
-
Potential deals – Pre-order sales may offer discounted pricing or bonus gifts.
Pre-ordering provides assurance you’ll get the ham you want when you want it.
Reasons Waiting May Be Fine
On the other hand, here are some situations where you may be fine waiting to get your ham:
-
Plentiful stock – If you have flexible dates or a small ham, stores likely have enough.
-
Late celebrations – Purchasing closer to New Year’s Day or other dates means fewer customers.
-
Nearby location – Those with a store right nearby can more easily get last-minute hams.
-
Small gatherings – Buying hams to serve just a few people is easier than large ones.
As long as your needs are flexible, hams are often available without pre-planning.
Tips for Guaranteeing You Get a Ham
If being ham-less for the holidays sounds devastating, here are some tips to ensure you get yours:
-
Order early – Place your pre-order at least 1-2 weeks before your target pickup date whenever possible.
-
Have backup sizes – List a second choice ham size in case your first pick is out of stock.
-
Pick up early – Don’t wait until the last minute for pickup in case of issues.
-
Check stock online – Use the store locator to see ham availability and pre-order if low.
-
Call ahead – A quick phone call can give insight into supply at your local store.
-
Be flexible – Opt for a spiral cut bone-in ham or boneless as needed.
With some planning and flexibility, you can devour delicious HoneyBaked ham every holiday season. But for smaller gatherings or if you can work around what’s available, pre-ordering isn’t mandatory. At the end of the day, what matters most is celebrating the season with loved ones and spectacular food!
Re: How far in advance can I buy a Honey Ham?
@SoonerI dont know your answer, but if they come vacuum packed, you can do it now for sure.
But I don’t know how to freeze ham. If it were any other meat, I wouldn’t wait five days to freeze it. When I know for sure I’m going to freeze some, I freeze a chunk as soon as I can. The idea behind this is that the fresher it is when I take it out to use it, the better it will be.
Hopefully someone way more knowledeable about ham will answer you soon.
Marry Christmas in the meantime.
