Buying Smoked Turkey In Grocery Stores
Many grocery stores now carry pre-smoked turkey options beyond just around the holidays. Here are some tips for finding smoked turkey in local grocery stores:
-
Check the refrigerated section near the fresh turkey, ham and pre-cooked meats. This is often where they stock smoked turkey.
-
Larger supermarket chains like Kroger, Safeway, Publix, HEB and more will generally have some smoked turkey options in the poultry department.
-
Higher end grocers like Whole Foods, Fresh Market, etc. have a wider selection of smoked turkey from top brands.
-
Butcher counters or prepared foods sections at gourmet markets may also carry house-smoked turkey.
-
Smoked whole turkey is more common nearer Thanksgiving but smoked breast and parts are available year-round.
-
Vacuum-sealed smoked turkey keeps for weeks refrigerated so stores can stock it anytime.
Some high-quality mail order smoked turkey producers will even sell their products in retail stores. So you may be able to find brands like Burgers’, Greenberg’s, or Double R Ranch locally if you’re lucky.
Finding Smoked Turkey at Specialty Shops
Lastly, consider checking at local meat shops, butcher counters and gourmet food stores for house-smoked turkey options.
-
Butcher shops will often stock fresh smoked turkey from their own smokehouses.
-
Deli counters at farm stores or markets sometimes carry smoked turkey.
-
Jerky shops or meat snack stores can be a source for smoked turkey sticks.
-
Specialty food stores may smoke their own turkey or sell artisanal smoked brands.
-
Check farmers markets for local turkey farms that smoke their own birds.
Buying smoked turkey from a local producer is a delicious way to support small business while getting ultra-fresh smoked turkey. The bonus is you can often try samples before you buy!

The Taste of The Holidays
Greenbergs have been smoking turkeys in Tyler for over 80 years. Little has changed in that time.
We prep each turkey by hand. After giving it our signature rub, we send the turkey to smoke for upwards of 16 hours.
Our Turkeys range in size from 5 to 15 pounds. We are unique in that you can order that size that you require as long as it is available. A rule of thumb for size is a third to half a pound per person for average eaters. Of course, this may vary, but we find this to be accurate in most cases.
