Why the Breville Smart Oven Shines for Pork Chops
With its combination of heating elements and smart technology, the Breville oven offers key advantages for pork chops:
-
Even heating from top and bottom elements prevents hot spots.
-
Moisture is sealed in thanks to the convection fan.
-
Browning is optimized using the additional broil function.
-
The oven senses thickness of food and adjusts cooking time accordingly.
-
You can preset cooking so chops are ready when you are.
These features add up to juicy, tender meat with a crispy browned exterior – pork chop perfection!
Selecting the Right Pork Chops
While the Breville oven excels at cooking any cut, I recommend:
-
Boneless or bone-in chops about 1 inch thick – cooks quickly while staying moist.
-
Enhanced chops for added flavor and tenderness.
-
Opt for rib chops, loin chops or sirloin chops for best texture.
-
Avoid extremely lean chops, which lack flavor and tenderness.
Properly sourced chops are key to achieving the best results later on.
Seasoning for Maximum Flavor
Don’t be afraid to generously season your pork chops! The Breville Smart Oven will lock in all that flavorful goodness.
-
For ease, use store-bought dry rubs. Look for spice blends featuring salt, pepper, garlic and herbs.
-
Make your own dry rub with pantry spices. Try paprika, oregano, cumin, chili powder, garlic powder and more.
-
Marinate chops in olive oil, citrus, herbs and seasonings for 30-60 minutes.
-
Brine chops in a saltwater solution to boost moisture – especially helpful for lean chops.
Get creative to put your signature touch on the pork chops!
Setting the Breville Smart Oven
Preheating properly is key for cooked-through, tender chops:
-
Set temperature to 350°F for 1 inch thick chops. Adjust higher or lower for varying thicknesses.
-
Choose the convection bake setting to circulate air and prevent hot spots.
-
Place chops on wire rack set in the middle of the oven – not too close to the broiler.
-
Allow oven to fully preheat before cooking. Be patient for best results.
The Breville oven eliminates the guesswork involved in choosing the right settings.
Recommended Cook Times
Thanks to smart technology, the Breville oven automatically adjusts timing. But here are some guidelines:
-
1 inch chops – Cook for approximately 15-18 minutes
-
1.5 inch chops – Increase cooking time to 18-22 minutes
-
2 inch chops – Cook for 22-26 minutes
-
Always rely on a meat thermometer for accuracy. Final internal temp should hit 145°F.
For extra browning, use the broil function for just 1-2 minutes after baking.
Allowing Time to Rest
Letting the pork chops rest after cooking is a must! Resting for 5-10 minutes allows juices to redistribute so the meat stays juicy and tender when you slice into it.
Keep chops tented loosely with foil as they rest – this retains warmth without overcooking them further.
Serving Suggestions
Baked pork chops pair well with so many sides. Some fun options include:
-
Mashed, baked or roasted potatoes
-
Rice pilaf or quinoa
-
Roasted vegetables – think broccoli, carrots, Brussels sprouts
-
Fresh green salad with vinaigrette
-
Butternut squash or sweet potatoes
-
Sauteed peppers and onions
With the Breville Smart Oven, you can even cook the chops and side dishes simultaneously. Easy!
Troubleshooting For Best Results
If your pork chops turn out overdone or dry, try these tweaks:
-
Use a thermometer to confirm doneness instead of relying solely on time.
-
Adjust bake time shorter or longer based on thickness.
-
Allow chops to rest sufficiently after cooking.
-
Brine or marinate chops beforehand to increase moisture.
-
Don’t crowd chops; allow space for air circulation.
The Breville Smart Oven takes the guesswork out of cooking pork chops. With the right techniques, you’ll achieve tender, juicy results every time! Enjoy this fast and delicious dinner option any night of the week.
Cooking tips for best results:
- What temperature should a pork chop be? I always let my meat sit out at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before cooking it. If you cook a cold pork chop, the middle might not be done all the way through, and the outside might be too done.
- About how long it takes to cook pork chops in an air fryer depends on the type of air fryer you have and how thick and cold the chops are. They’re done when the outside is golden brown and crispy, but the temperature inside should be at least 140°F when you take them out so that it can rise to 145°F while they rest.
- When I make pork chops for dinner, I always make extra so I can make pork fried rice with the rest of the meat.
How to make Air Fryer Pork Chops:
- Add a lot of salt and pepper to both sides of the chops.
- Fill a container with a flat bottom with flour. Place the pork chop in it and press each side of it to coat it. Shake off any excess.
- Egg wash: Dip the pork chop in flour and then coat all sides with beaten egg. Shake off any excess.
- Crumb coating: In a dish with a flat bottom, mix the bread crumbs, Parmesan, garlic, and Italian seasonings together. Cover the pork chop with egg and press it gently into the crumb mixture.
- Put things in the air fryer basket. Always put things in a single layer so air can flow.
- Cover the tops with olive oil spray. Before you’re done cooking, turn it over and spray the other side. Use a thermometer to check the internal temperature to make sure they are done.
Note: The model of air fryer I used for this recipe was the Breville Smart Oven. Although each model air fryer cooking in a similar manner, basket sizes and cooking times may vary greatly from model to model.

Is a Breville oven better than a wall oven?
Since the Breville oven is smaller and, well, smarter, it heats up much quicker than my big wall oven does. Quicker preheating means less time waiting to eat dinner, which is a lifesaver when dealing with hungry and tired kids. Most ovens come with an oven rack and various slots to have the ability to place said rack at different levels.
