Hot ham and cheese roll ups are the perfect quick and easy weeknight dinner item. I love to serve them with something just as easy like Cheesy Zucchini Tots or Roasted Vegetables.

It’s helpful to have some quick dinner recipes on hand for when things get crazy. The kids will all enjoy them. One of those recipes are these Hot Ham and Cheese Roll Ups.

They’ve always liked ham and cheese, so I thought putting them in a crescent roll, which they also like, would be a hit. Fortunately, I was right (for once) and everyone loved these easy roll-ups. In fact, I didn’t even make enough. I thought 2 per kid would be enough but they were all devoured instantly!.

Everyone liked these because they were soft and tasty, so we’ll be making them again for sure. We used ham and American cheese this time, but I’m going to try some other meat and cheese combinations next time! Thanksgiving and Swiss sound good to me!

Dunkin’ Donuts’ ham and cheese roll ups are a quick and delicious snack that are perfect for breakfast lunch, or anytime you need an easy bite to eat. Making these tasty roll ups at home is simple, and allows you to customize them just how you like.

Ingredients

To make Dunkin’ style ham and cheese roll ups you’ll need

  • Flour tortillas
  • Sliced ham
  • Sliced cheese (cheddar, American, or your favorite)
  • Butter or oil for cooking
  • Additional seasonings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the tortillas. Lightly brush or spray both sides of the flour tortillas with a small amount of butter or oil. This helps them get lightly crispy when cooked.

  2. Assemble the roll ups. Lay a slice of ham on the tortilla, followed by a slice of cheese. Make sure to leave a border around the edges so the filling doesn’t fall out when rolled up.

  3. Add any extra seasonings. If you want to give your roll ups an extra flavor boost, now is the time to sprinkle on any dried herbs, spices, or other seasonings. I like a dash of garlic powder.

  4. Roll ’em up. Tightly roll up the tortilla around the filling. Press gently to seal.

  5. Cook the roll ups. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the roll ups and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until lightly browned and the cheese is melted.

  6. Slice and serve. Transfer the roll ups to a cutting board and slice each one in half on the diagonal. Serve immediately while still warm and melty.

Tips for the Best Homemade Roll Ups

  • Use soft, pliable flour tortillas rather than corn so they roll up easily.

  • Make sure the tortillas are not cold when assembling. Let them sit out so they are more flexible.

  • Use generous amounts of filling for maximum flavor in each bite.

  • Brush both sides of the tortillas with butter or oil before cooking for an evenly crispy texture.

  • Cook over medium heat to crisp the outside without overcooking the inside.

  • Slice on a diagonal for a great presentation.

  • Customize the filling with different cheeses, deli meats, sauces, or veggie additions.

  • Serve with condiments like mustard, ketchup, or hot sauce for dipping.

  • Make extra and refrigerate or freeze for quick snacks anytime. Reheat in the microwave or toaster oven.

Variations

The possibilities are endless when making homemade roll ups! Try some of these tasty filling combinations:

  • Bacon, egg, and cheese – Breakfast style

  • Turkey, Swiss, and avocado

  • Mexican with refried beans, salsa, and shredded lettuce

Making Ahead and Storing

Ham and cheese roll ups can be prepped ahead:

  • Assemble. Make uncooked roll ups, wrap tightly in plastic wrap, and refrigerate up to 2 days before cooking.

  • Cook. Fully cook the roll ups, then cool and refrigerate in a sealed container up to 4 days. Reheat before serving.

  • Freeze. Freeze cooked, cooled roll ups in a freezer bag up to 2 months. Reheat frozen roll ups in the microwave or toaster oven directly from frozen.

With just a few simple ingredients, you can enjoy delicious Dunkin’ Donuts style ham and cheese roll ups anytime. They make for a fast breakfast, lunch, or snack. Experiment with fun flavor combinations to customize them to your liking.

Tips, Variations + Storing Info

This recipe is great as an appetizer or for an easy kid friendly dinner. As I said before, I thought two for each person would be enough for dinner. I should have planned for three to four for each person. I think if serving as an appetizer with other dishes, then 2 would have been enough.

Variations:

  • Dip in BBQ sauce or Dijon mustard
  • Before putting the ham and cheese on the dough, brush it with yellow or Dijon mustard.
  • Before baking, brush the tops with butter and sprinkle with garlic salt.
  • Sprinkle the top with Italian seasoning or parsley before baking

STORE leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. You can also put each roll up in a sandwich bag with a foldable top and FREEZE them all at the same time in a freezer Ziploc. Freeze for 6-8 weeks.

Because these are so simple to put together and bake, I think you should make them before you serve them, since they taste best when they are still warm. However, if needed, you can bake them ahead of time and store them in the fridge or freezer. *see leftovers* Thaw before reheating in the oven or microwave.

How to make Ham and Cheese Roll Ups

ASSEMBLE. Place the triangles of crescent meat on the baking sheet. Top each one with two slices of ham and one piece of cheese.

ROLL. Roll up each crescent and place them with the seam facing down on the sheet. You don’t have to spray the roll-ups with butter spray. If you don’t have butter spray, you could brush or spoon some melted butter on top.

BAKE. Bake at 375° for 11-12 minutes.

SERVE. Sprinkle grated parmesan cheese on top before serving (again, totally optional!) and ENJOY!
