Roast beef is a delicious and versatile low-carb protein source that can fit well into the Weight Watchers program. But with all the different cuts and serving sizes, how many PointsPlus does roast beef have? Let’s break it down.

The Basics of Roast Beef

Roast beef is a beef cut taken from the ribs, round, sirloin or chuck. It’s prepared by roasting seasoned beef in the oven until rare, medium or well-done. Common roast beef varieties include:

  • Top round roast – Leaner budget-friendly cut

  • Bottom round roast – Also lean with good flavor

  • Chuck roast – Contains more marbling for moisture

  • Rib roast – Premium tender cut from the rib section

  • Sirloin tip roast – Leaner with good texture

  • Eye of round roast – Very lean but less tender

Roast beef is prized for its savory umami flavor and versatile applications. Sliced roast beef makes fantastic sandwiches, salads, wraps and cheese boards. Shredded or chopped roast beef is great in eggs, soups, pasta and rice bowls.

Why Weight Watchers Members Enjoy Roast Beef

On Weight Watchers, roast beef can be a smart choice for several reasons:

  • High in protein – A 3-4 ounce serving provides 25-35 grams protein to keep you satisfied.

  • Lower in fat – Leaner cuts are naturally lower in saturated fat and calories.

  • Rich in nutrients – Provides iron, zinc, vitamins B6 & B12 along with other minerals.

  • Zero Freestyle Points – Most cuts are zero Points allowing you to fill up.

  • Versatile – Easy to incorporate into meals and snacks for variety.

Roast beef provides ample protein power and nutrition with less of the fat and calories that rack up Points. Next let’s look at how many PointsPlus different cuts and serving sizes have.

Easy Peasy Slow Cooker Pot Roast Recipe Notes

This easy slow cooker pot roast is an oldie but goodie that I adapted from my old Betty Crockers Cookbook (1978) (affiliate link), where it appears as a recipe designed to be wrapped in foil and slowly cooked in a 300F degree oven.

This week, a bottom round rump roast was on sale at my local market. It’s a great choice for Weight Watchers because it has less fat than many other beef roasts.

Mix ¼ cup of dried onions, 2 tablespoons of low-sodium instant beef bouillon, and ½ teaspoon of onion powder to make your own dry onion soup mix. I also chose a lighter cream of mushroom soup with less fat and sodium.
